Biking Detail Hindman, KY to Booneville, KY |
Left the B and B about 7:30 am and had a nice flat ride for about an hour. We stopped for coffee along the road and got warmed up a bit as it was somewhat cool with the sun just peaking out a bit. After the stop we encountered the first of 10 climbs. They seemed to just keep coming. They were not terribly long maybe 20 minutes to 40 minutes each rising from 250 feet to 750 feet, but they seemed as steep as we had encountered along our journey. Each seemed to run between 7% to 9% with runs up to 12% to 14%. By the end of the day we were glad to find our bed and breakfast location. Tonight we are staying at Linda's Victorian Rose BB.
Special notes for today: First, Stephen got bit in the ankle by one of the many dogs we have encountered along the way. Margie put some antiseptic on the cut and we hope that the dog had his shots. I also used my mace/pepper spray on a large pit bull as he approached me with his teeth showing. Shot the spray into his nose and he quickly stopped chasing and turned away. Second, we met another biker heading west. The only name we have for him is New Hampshire. We invited him to stay at our location but he is pulling a small trailer behind him and we are doubtful he will make it this far tonight. Good luck New Hampshire wherever you are.
One other item. It's seems it must have been quite dark when I dressed for the ride today. When we stopped for the day, I realized I had had been wearing my bibs inside out all day. Nobody seemed to notice but it's like wearing your underwear on the outside of your pants all day. No wonder my bottom was a little sore when we finished. I'll try to do better tomorrow.
