Biking Detail Marshfield, MO to Everton, MO |
Day 26 Saturday June 6
On the road at 7:40 Andreas, Ed and me. Ed camped at the RV lot behind the Holiday inn. Joined us for coffee before we took off. From Marshfield to Fair Grove (15 miles) had it in high gear averaging 16 MPH. Toned it down after that as the relentless hills took their toll on our legs. Ed continued in high gear until Walnut Grove. Very hot and muggy day!
More rolling hills and scenery pretty much the same as yesterday. Open farmland, lots of cattle. Ready to be out of the Ozark hills. Stopped in Ash Grove for lunch and to pick up things for dinner at the only super market within miles. Ash Grove was founded by Nathan Boone in 1837, son of pioneer Daniel Boone.
We are staying in Everton, MO tonight at the Running Spring Farm and Lodge...a pheasant hunting facility (on the AC map). Awesome facility and a must if ending your day in Everton. Lodge has three bedrooms, one with three sets of bunks, two baths, full kitchen, WiFi, air conditioned and only $25 per person if use your sleeping bags on top of the beds.
Large outside deck made for great place to R & R at end of day. Also great for changing flats as Ed had his second flat in two days! Will hit the bike shop in Pittsburgh tomorrow to restock his tubes! Making pasta and salad for dinner. Enjoying our restful late afternoon at the lodge. The AC riders are staying in a city park at Ash Grove tonight, about ten miles behind us.
