Biking Detail Nickerson, KS to Bazine, KS
Day 32 Friday, June 12

Fairly large storm front overhead in Nickerson about 5:00 AM, right when we were getting up and hoping for a 6:00 am departure. Lightning and rain. Love the Hi-Def radar phone app so we can stay on top of storms, directions, speed, etc. Left Nickerson about 8:00 am, put on my rain slicker as it rained pretty good for the first 50 miles then mist and very low clouds, somewhat foggy conditions for the last 20 miles into Larned. At least no wind gusts!!! Rain stopped about ten miles before Larned and I put my rain slicker back in the car.

Cool and comfortable biking weather....overcast, no rain and a helpful sidewind. Could this still be Kansas???  Made it to Larned by noon. Had a good lunch at the Broadway Pub then headed out. Rain stopped. Comfortable weather still for riding. Wind not favorable as we turned North for 20 miles to Rush City. Margie called Elaine's Cyclist B&B in Bazine, 53 miles from Larned, and owner very nice and willing to take us in for the night. Should be about a four hour ride. The ride to Bazine was good once we got on W96. Fewer trucks and good shoulder without the wake up bumps! Temperature stayed cool all day.

What a relief from past several days of heat!! Nice respite. Arrived at Elaine's in Bazine at 4:30. What a great find! Elaine fixed us a home cooked dinner which was delicious and will have breakfast ready at 6:30 am, which no other BnB has done. Highly recommend this BnB, which is only for cyclists and listed in the AC map. After we finished dinner Yum, a cyclist from South Korea, arrived. He is going W to E. Started in LA and will end up in Wash DC.

Ended the day at 112 miles at an average speed of 15 mph, best stats of the journey.
