Biking Detail Jeffery City, WY to Lander, WY |
Day 42 Monday, June 22
Left motel at 6:15 with favorable tailwind for a change! Mosquitos swarming this morning. Legs will get eaten alive even while moving. Deet up before biking through this area!!! After Sweetwater Junction will have a climb but then a 5 mile 6% downhill. Sweet.
Met Rick, a retired, from Virginia traveling self-supported same way. Will have a construction delay 22 miles before Lander...six mile stretch. First mile is one lane some gravel surface. Rest is grooved pavement. Ten miles before Lander at the junction of 28 and 789 have a newly paved wide shoulder to ride on! Nice!
Got in to Lander just before 11:00 AM and took my bike to Gannet Peak Sports for hopefully one last tune-up. Ed took it right in and was glad we were staying the night so he could take time with it. Ended up he replaced my rear tire, put on a new chain, cleaned my cassette, re-wrapped my left hand bar tape, and adjusted the pedal on my right side. The rear tire had cuts and gouges on it just looking for the right rock to puncture the tube. He put on a Schwalbe Marathon Plus which should be good for a long time.
We stepped next door to the trendy Middle Fork Cafe and took a table outside while Ed worked on the bike and had a wonderful breakfast: Vanilla lattes, Margie had a quiche and I had Eggs Benedict plus a homemade cinnamon roll. Nice way to end the morning ride!
Going back to pick up my bike we met another couple doing an unsupported ride. Small world they are from Spokane. Larry and Mary going West to East. We wish them the best.
